iPhone "Unknown Part" message
Apple serialise screens, batteries, and other hardware inside the phone to the logic board in the factory.
Swapping parts, even with genuine Apple parts, means your iPhone may display an "Unknown Part" message. This does not stop the functionality of the newly installed part it just may disable some features. For batteries, Battery Health may not show a percentage with a replaced battery. True Tone and Auto brightness are unavailable on replacement screens, although we have a device to transfer this screen data to keep these features (when performing a screen replacement, where possible we will attempt to copy True Tone and Auto brightness data from the old screen to the new one).
There are workarounds to trick the phone to think the genuine original part is installed that involves transferring the small components responsibile for serialsation between parts, but this is a highly skilled process and can be damaging if not done correctly.
